Matthew 23

Matthew 23
Pastor Lawrence

Prayer of Confession: Our father, we so quickly condemn the Pharisees for their sins not recognizing the same spirit that resides within us, for we too have not practiced what we have preached. We too have at times done our deeds merely to be seen by others. We too have sought the place of honor and have exalted ourselves at the expense of our brothers. We too have broken our vows unto God and promises unto men taking your name in vain. We too have prided ourselves in keeping some small aspect of your commands yet having neglected the weightier matters of the law. We too have cleaned the outside of the cup but have been full of greed and self-indulgence. Indeed, we have been infected by the leaven of the Pharisees through and through and have resembled a brood of vipers rather than the children of the King. O Lord, forgive us for our great hypocrisy, for our foolish pride and lawlessness, for our uncleanness and faithlessness. Create in us a clean heart O Lord, and renew a right spirit within us. Cast us not away from your presence, but gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings. O Christ, make us willing. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
