Joel 2 Prayer Points
Prayer of Adoration: O Lord God, we rejoice because of your just judgments. As the king of all the earth, you winnow all evil with your eyes and at your appointed time you will pour out your wrath upon the wicked and the ungodly. What a fearful day that will be, a day of darkness, gloom, and anguish when you utter your voice and execute your Word throughout the earth. We praise you O Lord and fear your name knowing that apart from the cross of Christ, we would surely be destroyed. But even with your saints you have promised to bring every deed into judgment, every secret thing whether good or evil, and so we humble ourselves before your holy throne and acknowledge your right to examine, to evaluate and to judge our thoughts, words and deeds according to your holy laws.
Prayer of Thanksgiving: Merciful father, we give you thanks for your kindness, forbearance and patience giving us room for repentance. Indeed, you are gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love and mercy. Instead of rushing to judgment, you often relent over disaster.
Prayer of Confession: Lord Jesus, we have called upon your name to be saved from the coming judgment, and we come to you as weary and heavy laden by our sins, asking for your forgiveness and a restoration of fellowship. We confess our many sins to you, our evil desires, our rejection of your ways, and our determination at times to run headlong into evil. O Lord, do not hold these things against us, your servants, but draw near to us in mercy as we draw near to you with our hearts that we might be satisfied with your steadfast love, stand confidently under your blessing, and be able to bless you in return.
Prayer for the Country: Lord of the nations, we pray for our nation that no longer looks to your hand for provision, that no longer acknowledges your mercies, that no longer calls upon your name and even asks of us regularly “Where is your God?” Indeed, our country has a foul smell to it because of all the filthiness and rampant wickedness in the land. The locusts have eaten much of the prosperity and peace that we used to enjoy, and there are threats on every side. O Father, as we call a holy assembly to humble ourselves before you, we plead that you would hear our cries and restore order and justice in our land, that you would raise up godly leaders to remove the filth and that you would restore the years that the locusts have eaten. For your name’s sake we pray that whatever blessing you might restore to us would be used to bless your holy name. O Lord, pour out your spirit in this land that many would call upon the name of Christ and be saved.
