Most Holy Lord, we are distressed by the many lawless deeds that we see and hear in the world today. Treachery, adultery and falsehood have become the norm in every nation. Our society proceeds from evil to evil as more and more people forsake your holy laws and are totally unacquainted with your ways. Because of this, we know it is only a matter of time before the earthly blessings that we have inherited will become a curse to us, and that all the beauty and order that we see will descend again into darkness and chaos. Lord, we put no trust in this world for it will certainly come to ruin, and all the wicked will eat the bitter fruit of their evil ways, for you will surely punish all the uncircumcised in heart. O Lord, we do not trust in this world, nor do we boast in our wisdom, our might, or our riches. But we boast in this, that we understand and know you, O Lord, who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. It is in you that we trust, and it is in you that we find our rest and our delight.
