Jeremiah 2 Prayer Points
O Lord god, it is you who lifted us up out of our slavery to sin and who has led us through the wilderness of this world protecting us from the evil one and providing for all of our needs. It is you who have loved us and blessed us and caused us to enjoy the good fruit of the earth. You have called us out of darkness and made us to be your holy people, your chosen bride. Yet we have defiled your holy covenant and despised your gracious inheritance. Though in our youth we devoted ourselves to you, loved you, and followed you wherever you went, later we took you for granted, lost interest, and went after worthless things, becoming worthless ourselves. You did us no wrong, but we have wronged you and broken our vows to you time and again, our faithful husband. We have forsaken you, who are the fountain of living waters, and hewn out cisterns for ourselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.
Now the roaring lion is devouring us, everything we have built up is being torn down, and the crown of glory has fallen from our heads. Surely, we have brought this upon ourselves by forsaking the Lord our God, who has lovingly led us in the way. And now we are tasting the bitter fruits of forsaking the Lord our God.
O Lord, how can we be so foolish in refusing to serve you, our husband and king? Why would we ever forsake your everlasting love to go whoring after worthless lovers? You betrothed us to you in purity but we have become a wild and degenerate adulteress. Our lust has gone unrestrained. We have been unclean, O Lord. Even if we were to wash ourselves with lye and use much soap, the stain of our guilt would still be before you. We are utterly ashamed of ourselves and despise our own behavior for turning our backs to you rather than seeking the face of our redeemer.
Gracious Lord, take pity upon your troubled servants who have been abandoned by all their false lovers. Do not forsake your adopted children who have refused to take correction. Though we have forgotten you days without number, do not forget us. Though we rightly deserve full judgment, we plead for the mercy of our faithful bridegroom who laid down his life for his bride. O Lord, instill in us once again the love and fear of the Lord. For your yoke is easy and your burden is light, and in you we find rest for our souls.
