Isaiah 53

Isaiah 53 Prayer Points

Gracious God, you have revealed the plan of salvation to us in your son, Jesus, and given us faith to believe in him as our savior and to trust in him as our lord. Though he had no outward form or majesty that we should look to him, and no beauty that we should desire him, we deeply love and admire him. Though we esteemed him not in the past he is more import to us now than anyone in the world. For your perfect son bore our griefs and carried our sorrows. He was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities. The chastisement that was upon him brought us peace, and by his wounds we have been healed.

Lord, we confess that we, like sheep, have all gone astray and have turned to our own way. But you, in your mercy, laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth. He was falsely judged, yet he did not defend himself. He was cut off from the land of the living for a sin he did not commit, even being buried him with the wicked, although he had done no violence and there was no deceit in his mouth.

We are in awe that it was your will to crush him, to put him to grief as an offering for our guilt. And now, by his righteous life and death, we have been accounted as righteous in your sight, for he has taken our iniquities and given us his grace. We thank you for this incredible gift of salvation in Jesus, a gift we do not deserve.
