Hosea 4 Prayer Points

O Lord, we have acted like ignorant pagans manufacturing vain idols in our hearts. Like unfaithful whores, our love for you has been fickle and cheap. And like faultfinders, we have contended with the Almighty, when it is you who should justly contend with us. For there is swearing, lying, stealing, adultery, and murder in our hearts, for which we ought to mourn, but our cheeks are dry. And we have felt the consequences of our sin on numerous occasions, pursuing happiness but never finding satisfaction in the world around us. O God, we have rejected knowledge and stopped our ears from hearing your Word. And the more mercies we’ve received, the more we have sinned against you. It is a wonder that you do not immediately repay us for our deeds. Lord, we are ashamed of ourselves. But we thank you for your rebuke and for your many corrections. We thank you for your threats and warnings. We thank you that your love compels you to confront us in our sin. O Lord, don’t stop confronting us, and never leave us alone because of our idolatries. For the sake of your son Jesus, be patient with us, and awaken us to our own depravity. Help us to feel the weight of our sin and the weight of the cross of Christ in making atonement for us. O God, forgive us, heal us and fill us with your Spirit that we might truly enter in to the joy of the Lord.
