Lamentations 5 Prayer Points
O Lord, you are the great El Roi, the God who sees, for you know our going out and our coming in. You look down from your holy habitation in heaven. You hear our groanings, and you remember the covenant that you made with your servants. Our Father, a woman may forget her nursing child that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb, but you will never forget your beloved children. You will never leave us nor forsake us. Surely goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives. O Lord, our Lord, when we look up at the heavens we wonder ‘What is man that you are mindful of him, yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor, giving him dominion over the works of your hands, putting all things under his feet.”
But O Lord, that crown has fallen from our heads. We have become sick in our sin and our eyes have grown dim. We have lost our beautiful inheritance that you once gave to our father Adam, and we now live in a dry and desolate land where we must pay for our water, where there is a famine of hearing the Word of the Lord, and where the joy of the Lord has turned into mourning. Our Father, take pity upon your children; do not leave us as orphans in a strange land. We have been pursued and enslaved by the enemy. We have grown weary in our labor and have found no rest in this world. We have turned to the idols of Egypt and Assyria looking for our daily bread but it is never enough, and we are never satisfied.
Woe to us, O Lord, for we have sinned and have tasted just the beginning of all the miseries that are in store for the wicked, and it has overwhelmed us. We cry out to you for help. We plead for your mercy, and we long for your grace. O Lord, restore us to yourself this day that we may be restored! Renew us in the Lord Jesus that we might be new men and women in Christ who love you and who live for you. You, O Lord, reign forever and your throne endures to all generations. Our Sovereign Lord, we long to be under your reign this day, to know the wisdom of your holy laws and the blessings of your sweet fellowship, so we come before your holy throne and worship at your footstool. Be exalted O Lord, we pray, in Jesus’ name.
