Exodus 20 Prayer Points
O Lord our Redeemer, you are the God who brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. We shall have no other gods than you. And we shall not compare you to any of your creatures or to any aspect of your creation, for you are high above the earth and all that it contains. We shall not take your name, O Lord, in vain, for your name is pure and great and wonderful. And we shall remember to keep your Sabbath holy, for it is not only our duty but our great delight. Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O Lord, and whom you teach out of your law. So, teach us to honor our father and mother and not to bring them any shame or disgrace. Keep us from murder, for the devil was a murderer from the beginning. Protect our hearts from adultery, for he who commits adultery lacks sense and destroys himself. Give us our daily bread and provisions that we might never be tempted to steal from others. And help us to speak the truth with, to, and about our neighbors for the devil is the father of lies, and his end is destruction. Give us thankful hearts O God, that we might be content and never covet that which is our neighbor’s.
O Lord, your law is holy, righteous and good. It has been revealed in your Word and written upon our hearts. Though we can never be justified by our own attempts at keeping your law, the law shows us divine wisdom. It shows us the way, the truth and the life that no one can come to you except by your perfect son Jesus, who not only kept your Word, but breathed and embodied it. Father, work the image of Christ in us, teaching us, testing us, and training us by your law that we might delight ourselves in your will and glorify your holy name.
