1 Peter 2 Prayer Points
Prayer of Consecration
O Christ, our Lord, we come to you, the living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, and we offer our spiritual sacrifices unto you knowing that they are acceptable in your sight because of your son Jesus and because you have consecrated us as living stones to be built up as a spiritual house, to become a holy priesthood unto God. O Lord, you are the cornerstone of that house, chosen and precious in God’s eyes, so that we who have believed in you will never be put to shame.
Prayer in Reading God’s Word
Like newborn infants, we long for the pure spiritual milk of your word that we might grow up into salvation, so help us to put away all malice and deceit, all hypocrisy, envy and slander that we might drink freely from your word this day.
Prayer for Evangelism
O God, we are your chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for your own possession, that we might proclaim the excellencies of the one who called us out of darkness into your marvelous light. Once we were not a people, but now we are God’s people; once we had not received mercy, but now we have received mercy. As sojourners and exiles, enable us to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against our souls. And help us to keep our conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against us as evildoers, they may see our good deeds and glorify your name on the day of visitation.
Prayer for Submission to Authority
Father, give us grace that we might be subject for your sake to every human institution, to all those who are in authority and particularly those sent by you to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is your will, O God, that by doing good we should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Living as people who are free, may we not use our freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. May we honor everyone, love the brotherhood, fear God, and honor the emperor. Lord, help us to be subject to our masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust. For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, if we endure sorrow while suffering unjustly.
For to this we have been called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, so that we might follow in his steps. Our father, Christ committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to you who judges justly. Lord, help us to trust you in the same manner as we submit to you even in our suffering.
