2 Timothy 2 Prayer Points
Prayer of Thanksgiving: Father, we give you thanks for, and remember, our savior Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of your holy throne. We thank you that he endured everything for the sake of the elect that we might obtain salvation in his name with eternal glory. You have promised that if we have died with him, we will also live with him, and that if we endure, we will also reign with him. But also, that if we deny him, he will deny us, for even if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself. O Lord, as a faithless and sinful people, we offer our bodies to you this day as a living sacrifice as our spiritual worship. Preserve our faith we pray, and keep us in your holy will, for it is only by your grace that we stand.
Prayer of Confession: O Lord, you know those who are truly yours and that you discipline your children in love. May we who profess the name of Christ never be opposed to your loving correction and your gentle rebuke, but hear your holy word and respond with faith and repentance, for you have said that everyone who names the name of the Lord is called to depart from iniquity.
Prayer for Sanctification: O Holy Spirit, purifier of our souls, help us to flee from youthful passions and to pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
Lord, cleanse us from everything that is dishonorable today that we might be vessels of honor, set apart as holy, useful to our master and ready for every good work. May none of us quarrel unnecessarily about words which does no good, but only ruins the hearers, and may we avoid irreverent babble which only leads to ungodliness and doubt. Rather, help us to fight the good fight of the faith that we might claim the victor’s crown. Help us to share in suffering as good soldiers of Christ Jesus not getting entangled in civilian pursuits, but aiming to please the one who enlisted us. Help us to run the race laid out for us as athletes who compete according to your rules, and may we, like hard-working farmers, enjoy the first fruits of our labor.
Prayer for Pastors/Elders: O Christ, the great shepherd of the sheep, we pray for also those who are charged with feeding and protecting your sheep that they would do their best today to present themselves to you as those who are approved, holy workers who have no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. And that as the Lord’s servants they would not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, and correcting their opponents with gentleness that perhaps you might grant repentance to those who have gone astray leading them to a knowledge of the truth, that they might come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will. We pray not only for them but for the faithful men whom they will entrust who can teach others also. Lord, strengthen them by the grace that is in Christ Jesus. Give them boldness, vision and love to lead and to care for the church of God which you obtained by your own blood.
