Leviticus 16 notes
O Lord, God of holiness, whose dwelling is in unapproachable light, we draw near to you in trembling awe, eager to approach your mercy seat since we are mindful of the great chasm our sin has caused between us. In the name of Christ, we enter the Holy of Holies with the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel acknowledging our many transgressions, our secret sins and our sins of presumption that have offended you, hurt others, and brought ourselves much misery. The burden of our sins is too heavy for us to bear, so we look to Jesus, the precious Lamb of God, to have our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience. We confess our sins to you and lay them upon your only son our scapegoat to take them away from us as far as the east is from the west. Cleanse us, O God, and purge us from our dead works to serve the living God. Clothe us anew in Christ’s robe of righteousness, setting us aside for your holy service and praise.
